Q: How do I get started?

A: Getting started is easier than you think!

  1. Select the photos for your DVD slide show. Be sure to select your highest quality and clearest shots. Omit out-of-focus photos and incomplete photos.
  2. Organize your photos to tell your story. For example, a 50th Wedding Anniversary slide show might progress from dating, engagement, wedding, children, events with family and friends, grandchildren, retirement to 50th Wedding Anniversary. DO NOT write on the back of your print photos to organize them. Instead place a small sticky note on the back with the sort number or write down the scenes in order.
  3. Select a theme. Do you want a slow emotional show or a modern fast paced theme? Do you want a classical or country theme?
  4. Decide on photo title captions and other title slides you want included in your DVD slide show.
  5. Select the music to go with your slide show. Look at our song suggestions but feel free to provide your own or have us purchase the music for you. All music is copyright protected. If we do not have your selections already, you must purchase the CD or download your songs from iTunes or Rhapsody. Keep in mind that each photo will take up approximately 5-8 seconds in your slide show. As an example, if you have 40 photos your DVD slide show length will be between 200 and 320 seconds (3 1/2 - 5 1/2 minutes). Adjustments can always be made to length of title slides, captions, and display times to fit your music.

Q: Can I scan my own photos?
A: Yes. You can scan your own photos into digital format and then upload them to our site or mail us your CD. It is very important that the pictures be scanned accurately and optimally. See our scanning guidelines for further details.

Q: Can I include negatives and slides in my show?
A: Yes. Our scanner is capable of scanning 35mm negatives and slides. Just make sure they are labeled and included in your order. Keep the 35mm negatives in their protective sleeve for safe mailing and provide the labeling on a separate sheet of paper or via email.

Q: What are captions and title pages?

A:

  1. A caption is text such as a label or quote that is added to your photo. Captions help your audience follow your slide show more and heighten the entertainment. An example might be "My 21st Birthday". Captions should be kept short, fewer than 10 words. DO NOT write captions on the back of your print photos. Instead, compile a list of captions that correlate to the photo by name. Mail the list in paper form, email it or upload it to us. For instance, using the example above you might write

      DSC0001.jpg "My 21st Birthday"

DSC0002.jpg "Vacation in Paris, November, 2008"

  2. A title page is text that introduces a group of photos. For example, "Our Rehearsal Dinner" text would appear on a page alone before the group of Rehearsal Dinner photos in your DVD slide show.

Q: What is the difference between photo retouch and photo color conversion?

A: Basic photo optimization includes adjustments for lighting, hue, saturation and contrast levels and are included in your DVD slide show for each photo. However, some photos require more than just the basic photo optimization.

  1. Photo retouching enhances color saturation for old faded pictures, masks photo blemishes, removes scratches, wrinkles, spots, stains, speckles and dust as best as possible.
  2. Photo color conversion converts a black and white photo to color. Depending on the photo, this can be very labor intensive. See our pricing to start. You can also convert color pictures to black and white or sepia tones.

Visit the Photo Gallery for examples of photo retouching and color conversion.

Q: How long should my DVD slide show be?
A: It depends on the purpose of the DVD slide show and the occasion. If the DVD slide show is intended to be viewed by an audience for an occasion then it is best to keep the length under 30 minutes. If, however, you intend it for home viewing the length could be up to 2 hours! Different occasions call for different lengths. For example, a 50th Wedding Anniversary slide show might be longer in length simply because there are 50 years of photos to select from to tell the story. Keep in mind that each photo will take up approximately 5-8 seconds in the DVD slide show.
